A Brief History of the ACDF
The group got started last fall (2006) because the need arose to defend the sacred art of Austin cosplay from an invading horde of DFW cosplayers. The brave men and women of Austin rose up and said “Nay! Nay you DFW-ers! We will never surrender!!!!! This is our city and we will defend it till we die!!!...Or till you die!!!”…Actually, I think there was some sort of discussion on cosplay.com about Ikkicon, and someone from Dallas was all like, “hey we’re taking over” and then Cody was all like “hell’s no! were gunna make some kind of Austin cosplay defense force and stop you damnit!” and then Danzig was all like, “OMG YES!” and made the ACDF boards. And then there was much spamming. ...Actually that’s really just how we got the name. There is even more to it then that. Now your asking yourself, what more is their than the honor of protecting local cosplay? Than the glory of battle? Well, I have an answer for you. People. That’s right. Around the same time as the aforementioned c.com discussion there was an outcry from a few local cosplayers (namely EverEvolvingGrl, Mugen and the above mention C and D.) for other Austin cosplayers. Where were they? Why couldn’t they find them? Did they even exist? (The answers to those questions are as follows: right here. They are ninjas. And yes.) Their hearts burned with infuriation (and unhappiness) at the fact that in Austin, the Texas city filled with more Weirdos than all the other cities combined, there was not already a group of this nature. And they cried out for Change! And we like to think that they got it. The fact that Ikkicon was coming along soon also helped to boost the creation of the ACDF. Gotta represent in your own town yo. The ACDF grew incredibly quickly after the boards where formed. And now, we are what you see here. And soon, we’ll be invading other city’s.
A subsection of “About the ACDF”
So I once again will tell you what you’re thinking. (Or what you should be thinking.) How the heck do I join this shining ray of cosplay awesomeness? Well, the first step would be to move to Austin, or the Central Texas area. It’s a completely open to anyone group, but we do suggest that you live somewhere relatively close so that you can share in the monthly goodness! If you already live in Austin, what the crap are you waiting for? No but seriously? What? I’d like to know.
